Our Story – Proudly Northmead Since 1951

NBC Sports Club’s journey began in July 1951, when local visionary Jack Stoner proposed creating a bowling club for the district. Thanks to the determination of early leaders like Frank Hayes – our first Life Member – the club secured 12 acres of Crown Land along Windsor Road in 1954, setting the stage for a community hub that would grow for generations.

The first green opened in January 1957, with the inaugural bowl rolled by John Stoner. That same year, the Women’s Bowling Club was formed, led by the Ladies Auxiliary – a testament to the strength and spirit of our founding members.

Through the 1960s, growing membership spurred expansion, with new greens and a clubhouse built to welcome more players. From there, every decade brought new improvements – from major refurbishments in the 1990s to expanded facilities in the 2000s, ensuring the club evolved alongside the community it serves.

Our greens have seen remarkable success, with both men’s and ladies’ teams proudly representing Northmead at the highest levels. But our story has always been about more than sport – it’s about people, connection, and community pride.

In February 2025, NBC Sports Club amalgamated with the Doyalson Wyee RSL Club. This amalgamation ensured we would continue to thrive as a leading hospitality and bowling facility, with the backing to grow with our community.

Today, as NBC Sports Club, we honour our heritage while embracing the future. We are the heartbeat of Northmead – a place where locals gather, friendships grow, and memories are made.
